The use of homeopathy in veterinary science is highly efficient at curing animals, as affirms Dr. Coral Mateo, the author, together with José Ramón Pérez Blázquez, of the book “Homeopatía veterinaria. Materia médica. Casos clínicos y comentarios” (“Veterinary homeopathy, medical material, clinical cases and commentary”) , which was presented at the Club Prensa Asturiana of LA NUEVA ESPAÑA last Tuesday.

Coral Mateo, a founding member of the Sociedad Española de Homeopatía Veterinaria (Spanish Society of Veterinary Homeopathy), emphasized that it is very simple for veterinarians to see how illnesses develop in animals: “We see them evolve, be born and die; they are like a reflection of humans, which is why they are often used in testing cosmetic products and medicines”.

The book compiles rigorous medical material, organized from A to Z, with comments, comparisons between medications and 48 cured clinical cases. It discusses illnesses such as atopia, demodicosis, lupus, mastocytomas, idiopathic pericarditis, irritable colon, FUS, urolithiasis, feline leukaemia, eosinophilic granuloma complex, convulsions, behavioural alterations or aggressiveness.

Coral Mateo explained that veterinary homeopathy treats the causes of illness rather than the symptoms, as opposed to conventional medicine. She gave the examples of many cats that stop eating when they are angry, and dogs that need to ingest lime and bite walls all day long. Homeopathic remedies attempt to build up the defences of patients, which in this case are animals.

The forewords to the book are by the President of the Federación Española de Médicos Homeópatas (Spanish Federation of Homeopathic Physicians), Doctor Inmaculada González-Carbajal, who indicated that although the book is aimed at veterinarians, it is also appropriate for physicians who want a pleasant overview of veterinary homeopathy.

Homeopathy is a therapeutic method based on the law of like cures like, as opposed to allopathy or official medicine, which is based on the law of opposites. It establishes that a substance capable of provoking certain symptoms is also capable of curing them when administered at minimum doses. Homeopathic treatment is advisable in general for any illness. Homeopathic veterinarians study animals as a whole, in addition to the symptoms that take them to the consultation.
