Fifteen thousand signatures are gathered to petition for the recognition of homeopathy as an effective medical therapy

Fifteen thousand people have signed an Internet petition requesting that the discipline of homeopathy be declared a full medical act in order to hold a status equal to that of conventional medicine in Spain, as defended by the Asamblea Nacional de Homeopatía (Nacional Assembly of Homeopathy).
Around 150 specialists in this therapy, which increases the power of the body’s immune system, will be participating in the III National Congress at the Medical Faculty of the University of Valladolid until next Sunday. The Congress was inaugurated yesterday by the Health Secretary, Francisco Javier Álvarez Guisasola.

Interest in London

The regional director of health services declared that his interest in this branch of medicine was awakened during his time in London in the 70s, when he visited an important homeopathic centre near the British Museum which had been promoted by Queen Victoria; this centre made a “great impression” on him because of the ignorance regarding homeopathy at that time in Spain, although he stated that he was “satisfied” that the University of Valladolid is now a “pioneer” in this discipline.

In order to encourage the continuation of such progress, Dr. María Dolores Tremiño, the organizer of the Congress, declared that this event will serve as a meeting place for experts in homeopathy, who will share their clinical experiences and present new research in this field.
