Luna
8 year old mixed-breed dog with epilepsy. Background She was found abandoned when she was 5 or 6 months old, in very poor condition – she was very thin and ate compulsively. She ate sheep and human feces. They kept her because she was very sweet. Everything went well until a large dog crashed into her and she turned rigid, as if she were in shock. This happened a year after she was found. About 8 or 10 months later she had another crash one night with a bar of wood, and this time she even bled. Since then she has had epileptic seizures every 2 or 3 months. She develops a blank stare, her muscles jerk and she cannot remain standing, then she drools a lot and ends up vomiting. The seizures have become more common and presently occur 2 or 3 times a day. Before suffering a seizure she looks for you so that you pick her up; if she is being held the seizure lasts less time. She is a very territorial dog, she growls and defends her food, she is jealous, cheerful, playful and very affectionate. She is distrustful and barks at the neighbours. She is very sensitive to the cold, frightens easily (noises, darkness). If she is left alone for too long she gets angry – “She makes a scene when you get home”. She loves raw carrots. Blood WorkEverything was normal except LDH and creatinine phosphokinase, which were very high. Treatment I gave her Lachesis 30 C. Fifteen days later they told me she hadn’t had any seizures. A month later they said she had had 2 seizures in a week. Little by little I have been increasing the dose to 10 and 12 LM each 3 weeks. I am still treating this case, although she is constantly improving and the seizures are more spread out. |
